Stump Removal and Grinding in Salt Lake City

Once a tree is down, the stump is what's left, and most people want it gone. A stump in the ground keeps sending up shoots, attracts wood-boring beetles, takes up space in the yard, and makes mowing a problem. Grinding it out is usually the fastest and most practical solution.

Stump grinding takes the stump down several inches below grade and grinds through the visible root flare at the surface. What's left is a layer of wood chips and mulch that can be raked out or left in place to break down over time. The root system below stays in the ground and decays on its own over the following years. For most residential situations, grinding is all you need.

Full stump extraction, which means pulling the root ball out of the ground entirely, is a larger scope of work. It makes sense if you're planning to pour a slab, install a pool, or do significant landscaping work in that area. We'll quote it separately and let you decide what makes sense for what you're planning to do with the space.

Stump grinding can usually be done as a standalone job or added on the same day as a tree removal. We bring the right equipment for the size of the stump, grind it down, and clean up the grindings. If you've got multiple stumps from previous tree work, we can run through all of them in one visit.
